A WELSH COASTAL ROAD TRIP: WHERE TO STOP ALONG THE WAY

The Welsh coastline is famed throughout the world for its rugged, unspoilt beauty. From the Gower’s sweeping surf spots to Pembrokeshire’s wild and wonderful coves, it’ll take you days to see it all.

But where should you stop off on your great Welsh trip of a lifetime? We’ve put together a list of our top five spots along the south and west coast, so fill up your petrol tank, crank up the driving tunes, and hit the road!

 

SWANSEA

Beautiful Swansea’s got it all, and no Welsh coastal road trip would be complete without a quick stop off at this wonderful city. But we would say that, we’re based here!

The gateway to the Gower, Swansea is a bustling hub where you can stroll, shop, eat, drink or relax – there’s plenty to do here whatever the weather.

TENBY

Tenby is the epitome of a Welsh seaside town. Built on top of a hill, this picturesque harbour is framed by iconic candyfloss-coloured buildings and is the perfect place to relax for a weekend.

The three golden beaches in Tenby are stunning year-round, and each has its own unique character. Why not explore them all and pick a favourite?

ST DAVIDS

The tiny city of St David’s (it’s Britain’s smallest) is surrounded by some of the finest coastline in Europe, but there’s plenty going on to keep you busy if you fancy stopping off for a few nights.

With lots of independent boutiques and eateries, as well as numerous art galleries, St David’s is a cultural hotspot with a thriving artistic community. The perfect place to stop for inspiration if you’re creatively inclined!

CARDIGAN

Set on the River Teifi, over which you’ll find its iconic stone bridge, this friendly market town is a great place to stop if you enjoy spending time in the great outdoors.

Go dolphin spotting on one of the wildlife boat trips, or take a kayak up the river to the secret beach, but whatever you do, be sure to finish your day with a slice of pizza at the Pizza Tipi. You’ll thank us!

ABERYSTWYTH

Aberystwyth is known for its university, but you don’t have to be a student to enjoy this lovely seafront town.

With a pub for every week of the year, its pub crawl is legendary, so it’s a great place to go if you like sampling local ales. The town is buzzing during the rugby 7s tournament in early May – the biggest in Wales – so why not get a team together and head down to enjoy the party?
